How to cut down paper-use
Going paperless benefits both you and the environment. If 20% of American households switched from paper to electronic bills it would save 1.8 million trees. When transferring your policy and billing information online, there are a few ways to prepare:
- Make copies: when storing your policy information online, you'll want to also have a backup on your computers desktop to easily pull up and reference. Many consumers wonder if they should discard every paper document after scanning it. Important paper documents to retain in both paper and digital form might include legal documents like property titles and deeds, birth certificates and identifying forms.
- Use a filing system: you wont be any more organized after going paperless if your documents are in a jumbled mess on your computer desktop. Set up a series of folders, one for your credit card, or if you have multiple cards a separate folder for each, phone bill, cable bill, electric and so on. Each billing company should be in individual folders.
- Automatic payment: going paperless requires you to check online for when a new payment is due. By enrolling in automatic payment for paperless billing, it takes the worry out of missing a payment date.
