In March 2017, Selective asked small business owners from all over the country to share in a one-minute (or shorter) video why their small business is a big deal. The #thinkBIG video contest generated 84 videos showcasing 84 unique stories about 84 unique small businesses.
Bike Elf, which entered and took third place, is insured through a Selective agency partner, Madison Insurance Group (MIG). Agent Joel Ammons played a big role in helping Bike Elf generate votes for its video by sharing the video within the agency and with its customers.
Bike Elf is a Tennessee based non-profit run by Dewayne and Leigh Wilson. They take donated bikes and repair them to then give to children who work towards educational goals. Their motto is: “You donate 'em, we fix 'em, kids earn 'em.”
Joel Ammons is not only the independent agent for the Wilsons, he also volunteers with Bike Elf at its events. With Ammons’s lead, MIG sent out a blast email to the agency’s customers encouraging them to watch Bike Elf’s video and then vote for it to move it up the leaderboard. And, due to Ammons’s close relationship with the Wilsons and Bike Elf’s mission, he was able to be a part of the Selective Insurance check delivery when they were awarded their third-place prize of $1,000.
The #thinkBIG program provided agents with marketing support pieces (such as thinkbig.selective.com, selective.com and Selective’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages). Selective encouraged all agents and agencies to share with their customers the #thinkBIG video contest enthusiastic participation of agencies provided an opportunity to shine a spotlight on those small businesses that entered – and agencies’ expertise in serving small business risks.
